(Clark, George Rogers) (1752-1818), Organized and led frontiersmen against Indians, fought Indians and British in Northwest Territory (Illinois, Indiana) & Kentucky. 8 x 6½ partly-printed DS signed by S. Carr of the Virginia Land Office Treasury, Jan. 29, 1780, to the principal surveyor of any county within the Commonwealth of Virginia. Authorization for a survey of 560 acres of land for Clark, his heirs or assigns, for recruiting his battalion & in lieu of the bounty of 750 dollars and in consideration for £224 paid to the Treasury. Governor Thomas Jefferson is said to have personally given Clark 300 of these warrants to induce men to enlist in the fight against the British and Indians in the northwest Territory. With seal at top left.

Sisters Lee Radziwell and Jacqueline Kennedy jointly produced a book "One Special Summer". Lee Bouvier was born in 1933 and was 7 or 8 when older sister Jackie created this approximately. 10 x 8 colorful juvenile masterpiece for her little sister. Jackie's illustrated poetry, like this example, was featured in the February 1961 Ladies Home Journal and later shown on a 1962 NBC News Special on Jacqueline Kennedy which was much later re-broadcast on MSNBC. A lovely and most uncommon example of original art by the celebrated late First Lady!

Two ALSs in Spanish from Sierra Maestra while battling Batista's Army, both to Pedro Luis Diaz (who would head Cuba's Air Force before defecting to the U.S. ca. 1962) and both signed "Fidel". 1.) Sept. 16, 1958, 4 ¾ x 3 ½ notepaper, 4pp. Castro tells Diaz he has received a message from "Zoilo" regarding shipment of anti-tank and machine guns and ammunition and 17 rifles and information received from "Osvaldo" which may have been lost. Castro has detached people to search for the weapons and flight charts thrown from the airplane have been found and were taken as a clue to start the search. Folds. 2.) Sept. 22, 1958 6 x 4 notebook sheet, 2pp, regarding the length of a landing field south-west of Cienaguilla to which could come a plane "exactly like the one destroyed". Castro is on his way to Las Vegas, hopes to see him before he leaves, has 10,000 pesos he wants to send with Diaz. Small piece missing at top center when ripped from notebook. Exceptional content.

Churchill writes Ambassador Guillermo de Blanck thanking him for his welcoming letter and gifts, and when Churchill has exhausted the possibilities of the Capponcina he would be delighted to accept the offer of his villa "as a new painting point". As Churchill is rather tired he does not anticipate leaving the garden for some time. Churchill had just been turned out of office as Prime Minister. Painting was his hobby, along with masonry.

Few creases and wrinkles, mounted on same size board. B) ALS in Russian, no place, no date, 2pp. (1st and 2nd pages of a folded sheet), with translation. Chaliapin writes a woman, Antonina Vasilyevna, asks her to see her acquaintance, the Moscow City Elementary School supervisor about getting a young teacher friend of Chaliapin's transferred from her village school to a city position. With holograph addressed and signed envelope.

Approx. 4¼ x 5½ postally used black-bordered mourning envelope (for her father-in-law Czar Alexander III, died Nov. 1, 1894) addressed in her hand to "Her Majesty/ The Queen/ Windsor Castle" (her grandmother, Queen Victoria of England) with August 20, 1895 Russian postmark. Wax seal, printed Tsarskoe Selo (name of tsarist summer home) in Cyrillic, with Queen Victoria's handwritten docketing, "The Empress of Russia", on back. Envelope flap tear, Very Fine and excellent association.

DS in Cyrillic from Lev Artsimovich (first scientist to get thermonuclear reaction in a laboratory) on Academy of Sciences letterhead, Moscow, Dec. 22, 1961 to Kapitsa asking him what reports should be read at an upcoming scientific conference. Kapitsa writes on the document (AES in Russian): "Com. Borovik and Abrykosov, please deliver the list of possible reports. P. K." and dates it the 26th. Two file holes at left margin.
